Critical Personality Assessment - CPA - Introduction
The CPA provides the world's most comprehensive measurement of three Factors of personality - Conscientiousness (Work Ethic), Emotional Reactions (Stress Tolerance) and Extraversion.
All are strong indicators of a person's productivity potential.

Conscientiousness (Work Ethic)

In other words...

Describes how organised, focused, self-motivated and thorough an individual is in life and in pursuing goals. Is the test-taker industrious, achievement orientated, thorough and well organised?

Emotional Reactions (Stress Tolerance)

In other words...

Measures the different ways people have of reacting emotionally to pressure and stressful circumstances.

Are the test-taker's reactions overly emotional?  Does he or she tend to be rather apprehensive and anxious - or - cool, calm and collected?

Extraversion In other words...
Extraversion describes how energetic and enthusiastic a person is - especially when dealing with people. Is the test-taker outgoing, socially active and extravert.  Or is he or she less social, preferring to work and be alone?

Validation studies involving tens of thousands of people have concluded that there is overwhelming evidence to support the fact that these factors impact on all job activities - on all competencies - at all levels.

Higher scores for
Conscientiousness
& Extraversion

=

Higher Productivity
Lower Scores for
Emotional Reactions

People who score HIGH for Conscientiousness and Extraversion and LOW for Emotional Reactions tend to focus on goals in an industrious, disciplined, dependable and reliable fashion.

Of course, you do not really need a scientific study to establish this!  Commonsense tells you that:

  • Conscientious people are more likely to strive to do their jobs better than those who are less conscientious.

  • People who are less emotionally reactive are less likely to experience stress, frustration and emotional problems that could impact negatively on their work activity.

  • People who are more extraverted are talkative, sociable, socially self-confident. They are comfortable in groups and teams and enjoy intensive and extensive people contact.

The Big Five Model of Personality
The CPA questionnaire
completed by the test-taker is based on The Big Five Model.  It takes into account the dynamic interaction of 5 different Factors and 30 Facets of personality before reporting on the test-taker's Conscientiousness, Emotional Reactions and Extraversion.

Content of the Report:

The CPA provides a:

  • Summary Score for each of the Factors of Conscientiousness, Emotional Reactions and Extraversion.

  • Detailed Scores for each of the 18 Facets of personality that specifically relate to Conscientiousness, Emotional Reactions and Extraversion.

This information enables the test-administrator to accurately identify:

  • How the test-taker's conscientiousness is likely to be expressed in their approach to work.

  • How the test-taker is likely to react to and deal with pressure and stressful situations.

  • How he or she is like to interact with others either on a one-to-one or on a team basis.

  • Potential key monitoring, coaching and training needs.

Interpreting the Report

This report ranks the test-taker's scores within a range from 'very low' to 'very high'.

To enable you to compare the test-taker's scores against the 'normal working population' please take a look here:

Ranges: Very Low Low Middle High Very High
Score < 34 35 > 44 45 > 55 56 > 65 66 >
Approximate distribution for normal adult working population:
  7% 23% 40% 23% 7%

*Normal adult working population.  Please note that distribution of scores may differ if comparisons are being made against other cultural, demographic or specific occupational groups.

Brief descriptions are shown for Low and High range scores for each area measured. This enables you to make an 'at-a-glance' assessment of results.

Test-takers with Middle Range scores* will be a mixture of both High & Low descriptions but less extreme.

Note
The Facet scores will not necessarily always be within the same score range as the Factor score. Sometimes they can be very different. These differences are a reflection of the test-taker's unique personality. Differences can help you more precisely identify strengths, limitations, coaching and monitoring needs.

*Considering the Facet scores is particularly important when the test-taker's Factor score falls within the Middle Range.

Strongest Personality Factor or Facet
The Factor or Facet score furthest away from 50 - above or below - indicates the person's strongest personality trait. This personality trait is likely to have the greatest influence on the test-taker's overall behaviour, motivation, values and reactions to life and work situations.

The next furthest away from 50 - above or below - is likely to have the next greatest influence and so on.
